Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin

The Center of Digital Health founded by Roland Eils at the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) focuses on processes in medical informatics and bioinformatics. The Health Data team works on the automation of computational workflows in biomedical research, provides tools for data management and builds up infrastructures that support the fast transfer of new research results into healthcare. A fundamental challenge of digital healthcare environments is the growing amount of sensitive patient data, e.g. those created by smart wearables or whole genome sequencing. Handling and processing of such huge data sets in daily routine diagnostics requires new infrastructures and IT solutions. Therefore, the team is also working on large-scale IT and cloud solutions, in particular the de.NBI cloud, a federated cloud infrastructure comprising eight locations across Germany. In addition, the team provides courses and workshops for hands-on training of basic and expert users on the offered tools and services.
